10 Tips to a More Inviting Home

Do you want to make sure your guests are comfortable and feel welcome when they come into your home? Follow these 10 tips and you can do just that!

1. Curb Appeal

The first thing your guests see as they pull up to your house is the front door. A way to make your home stand out and seem inviting is to paint your door a bold color. A pop of color will attract people to your home and make them want to come in. Another thing to make your guests feel welcome in your home is to have the porch light on so they know you are expecting them.

2. Furniture

The way you place your furniture can say a lot about your home. Try and keep it simple and offer a clear walkway for your guests. Make sure the room is clutter free. Light, rather than dark, furniture is more inviting and welcoming also.

3. Food

Everyone loves food, especially when you’re not the one who had to cook it. Having snacks is a nice way to welcome your guests and clear the awkward air if need be. It doesn’t have to be anything big and fancy, but it just suggests to your guest that you had planned for them to be there and were expecting them.

4. Scent

As soon as the door opens, your guests get a big whiff of your home. What they smell is up to you. Cooking is an easy way to make your home smell good. Another way to make sure your home doesn’t smell bad is to keep all shoes and even jackets away from the front door. Save that room for their belongings. Plug in Scentsy’s around the house, make sure it is nothing too strong.

5. Personal Touches

Most everyone has personal photographs hanging on the walls around their house. Your guests love this because it shows that your open with them and are inviting them into your personal life. However, there is a fine line of how many personal items you should have displayed. If you have too many, your guests may feel like they are invading your privacy.

6. Temperature

There is nothing worse for a guest than either sitting there freezing or trying to secretly wipe away their sweat because they don’t want to say anything to the homeowner. Watch your guest’s body language to make sure they feel comfortable in your home so that they will want to come back.

7. Plants

Bringing plants into your home brings life into the space and makes it feel alive and welcoming. People’s eyes are specifically drawn to green leaves. It kind of brings the outside in, which gives off the illusion of peace.

8. Lighting

Lighting is very important to make your guests feel comfortable and welcomed. Open up the blinds, the curtains, even the windows if you want some fresh air coming in. Once again, lighter furniture also helps with lightening up the room.

9. Clutter

As we go through our everyday lives, it’s easy to just walk into our house and throw our things down, then relax. Eventually, things start to pile up and before you know it you have clutter everywhere. Before you have any guests come over, make sure to remove all of that clutter. You don’t want your guests to feel like they are invading or interrupting by being there.

10. Comfort

Everyone loves fuzzy blankets and soft pillows. Put these on your couch and your guests will feel very comforted, welcomed, and invited. As talked about earlier, you could even keep it slightly cold so that your guests use the blankets. Be careful doing this though because your 2 hour get together could turn into a 5 hour get together (if they fall asleep!)
